Lifesavers: Troubled Teeth and No Computer

We're moving in! That is an ongoing verb. We started last Wed, still doing it now. No computer at the New Old House, so that's part of the reason for no new posting for so long. The other part of the reason, is I'm crazy-occupied with living right now!

Here's the rundown on the New Old House:

Some rooms painted, some not. Some bathrooms working, some without doors. Some light fixtures with dimmers, some light bulbs hanging from wires in the middle of the ceiling.

Some boxes unpacked, many many many boxes not packed. Some beds put up, some mattresses on the floor.

Some clothes hanging in closets, some clothes 15 miles away at my mom's (especially the ones appropriate to wear to church this morning when Mark was preaching. That was tricky, esp finding shoes without paint droppings on them).

Some dishes in the cupboards, lots of paper plates in the trash. One room with a clean, scrubbed wood floor, all the rest dirty and dusty. Some laundry done, everything else very dirty. Some children happy to see the toys that have been in storage for 9 months, some children bored with nothing to do.

AND, I'm getting my wisdom teeth, all 4 of them, pulled in the morning. Please pray for me and my family.

The happenings of the last week have provided enough blog fodder for weeks and weeks to come. All sorts of wild, make you want to cry and laugh at the same time happenings with the Robinsons. After we're moved in and I can crawl out of my bed from the teeth thing, I'll tell you all about it.

The Start of the Finishing

I can't bring myself to show you pictures of our New Old House. Everything is getting close to the start of finishing, but nothing is finished. And instead of showing you the progress pictures, I'm holding out to show you the finished product. Suffice it so say somebody living in this house has been working on the New Old House almost every waking moment of the day. Usually my mom and I swap watching the kiddos and the other one goes to work. And Aunt J was a BIG help with Lydia this week. Mark is pretty much there all the time except for when he's working on the farm. Mark's Dad has been an absolute Hero! Wow! You sure do know a lot, Dad! Thank you!!!! I honestly, cannot imagine where we'd be on this whole project without you. Words cannot express our gratitude!

So instead of posting a picture, I'll paint you a picture with words: :)

The Progress:
  • ALL pipes replaced
  • NEW electricity stuff (I don't really understand all that had to be done, but it was a lot)
  • New Bathroom on the first floor with WORKING plumbing
  • Kitchen walls, floor, cabinets, appliances IN!
  • Living Room PAINTED
  • Lydia's Room PAINTED
  • Dining Room ALMOST Painted
  • Claire's Room ALMOST Painted
  • 2 Rooms of hardwood floors WASHED
  • Lawn MOWED
The Work to do:
  • FINISH the Repairing (mudding, sanding) walls
  • PAINT
  • Kitchen Counter tops
  • Dining Room Floor
  • 1,000 other things that would bring you to tears if I listed them all
Sorry, I've been so blog delinquent. I really miss you guys. One of these days I'll be able to do it daily. But right now, my creative energy is being diverted.

Till next time!

Finally 4

Here they are! Luke and Caleb finally have 4 year old pictures, taken on the same day.
Yes, they're actually 4 and a half, but it still counts!

So get ready Grandma! New pictures are coming to grace the walls and shelves of your house! Just don't ask for a 6 year old picture of Claire. She'll be 7 on Friday. No time to get those 6 year old pictures taken. It's not my fault she wasn't 6 long enough to have a formal portrait session. :)

Do you empty your pockets?

I was trying to catch up on a little picture taking now that I'm beginning to feel better again. It was a nice, warm overcast day so I took the boys out to try to take some pictures of them. It's been hard for me to get a great, smiley picture of both of them on the same day in the same light. It doesn't matter to some people, but when I hang their "formal portraits" on the wall at Grandma's house I like for them to coordinate. I know, I've got issues.

Anyway, I did that, had some space left on my camera so I grabbed my baby girl and plopped her down in the grass to show off her new sitting up skills. Got a couple sweet, baby girl shots. Had to change memory cards in the middle which is always a pain when you're outside. Did you know you should NEVER change the cards in your camera outside? If you absolutely must, you should do it inside a big ziploc bag. It's hard to believe, but the dust in the air can really mess up the sensors on your camera. Now, I didn't actually do that, but really, you should.

So the next morning I sat down at my computer to download the pictures. After emptying the first card, I remembered I left the other card in the pocket of my camo capris which I conveniently left on the floor in the bathroom. But wait, no, I just cleaned up the bathroom floor and actually took them to the laundry room. Then at the last minute decided to throw my camo capris in with the load. Can you tell where this is going? The memory card was in the pocket of my pants in the washing machine. Ugh!!!

ARGH!!!!

But with a flickering of hope, I dig the card out of the wash and attempt to blow dry the card. You never know! Maybe this will just dry out the microchip and everything will be good. Sometimes I'm a really good optimist.

I put the card into the reader and wait to see what will happen. The lovely computer attempts to "scan and recover potentially damaged files". Sounds like progress. Hope continues to flicker.

The card files open and this is what they look like:

$$$__$$ and $$...___$ and $__$$__

No pictures. And in place of my adorable twin shots and baby girl the villainous computer taunts me with files all filled with dollar signs! Like it somehow knows I'm about to spend $200 on a memory card!!

Wish I had some cute photos to add to this post. They were on the card.

LifeSavers: The Big D

Got the big D. Don't feel well. It's been 4 days. Will blog when I feel better.

Oh, and I have to get all of my wisdom teeth pulled. Ugh. It's been a hard week.
