Lydia is One!

Lydia's first birthday party was a quaint little gathering of 'just family'. For some of you the term 'just family' might conger up images of a little kitchen table: girls on one side, boys on the other. Everyone in their sweatshirts with silly, shiny grins on their faces looking at the birthday girl sitting behind her sheet cake with one glowing candle on the top. Well, that's not what it's like around here!

Around here, the kids' table is the biggest table in the house!
And 'just family' referred to 38 people! Cuz a few people couldn't make it.

But oh! we had fun!
Look at that glee!

(That's my first multi-level cake.) Lydia enjoyed every bite once she got the hang of it!

We have this ridiculous tradition that the birthday child gets the whole cake on their tray. But I decided against giving all three layers and cut it down to just the first one. I'm getting so conservative in my old age.

I had to help her along because patience isn't my forte and she was just plucking off the little frosting polka dots. . . . come on, Child, dig in!

Really? I can EAT this?

And seriously, that was some YUMMMMMMY carrot cake, if I do say so myself.

See? Lydia shared with me. Isn't she generous?

Don't touch the cake and no one gets hurt.

In other non-cake news, our little darling baby really is trying to grow up. Last night at the party she practiced walking for the first time. She's taken a few steps here and there, but last night she would walk a little and then just giggle because she was so proud of herself.

Happy Birthday Liddy Biddy Priddy Busy Baby!

Precious Girl!! We're having a big birthday bash for Naomi tomorrow. (and her big sis Anna, they're only 3 days apart) Jody, can you believe how quickly this year has gone by?! Seems like just yesterday our little ones were so tiny and sleeping the days away...I've heard this saying before and totally agree.."The days are long, but the years fly by". Yep. Enjoy each day because some day it's going to be us stopping young Mothers in the grocery store with tears in our eyes, telling them to enjoy this time while they're young, because it goes by so fast..(yep, I get that one at least once a week!) It's so true and such a great reminder to live each day to the fullest.
Happy Birthday Liddy Biddy Priddy Busy Baby!!

I'm actually in shock that she is one already. I guess I shouldn't be since her and Ava aren't that far apart. Your party looked very fun! Great job on the cake! Looks yummy! Thanks for sharing your beautiful birthday girl.

Congrats! Looks like a great party! What a beauty!

PS I tried to keep my baby a baby just a while longer, too, but he will be 1 in a couple of weeks. Where did the time go?

aw, Happy Birthday Liddy Biddy Priddy Busy Baby! :) Now THAT'S a term of endearment!
The 'keep the hands of the cake' pic is hilarious. I make that face too when Shawn asks me if he can have a bit of my dessert. Sorry it was such a small affair, maybe more family will be able to make it next time...
